Loving Fall

20141013-011522-4522294.jpgOne thing you all should know about me is that I am a fall baby and I love everything this season has to offer. With fall rituals like picking apples, going to football games and searching for new boots, the fall season has so much to offer that I enjoy. Now that we are well into my favorite season I want to share with you a great outfit that I put together.

For a night out with some friends, I sought out an ensemble that was cute, comfy and had a great pop of color. I started with these raspberry colored jeans that I purchased from Forever21 a few years ago. These jeans a very soft with a great stretch and good skinny leg. Sometimes I come across skinny jeans that have a wide ankle which can ruin the look of an outfit but these just right.

The color is no longer available but you can find some other colors that pop with their current collection here. At this time they only have it available in the short length but if you visit their store or check back later I’m sure you’ll find it in regular and tall lengths.

I paired it with a top that I also found at Forever21. This cream colored blouse works as a great contrast with the jeans. I also think it’s a good investment that I can wear during any season to dress up any look. It may still be available in the store, but if not maybe you can use this H&M alternative instead.

So the shoes have to be my favorite piece from my outfit. They were purchased from Payless and are apart of their ComfortPlus collection. I like these shoes because the heel isn’t as high and they are designed with great comfort without compromising the style. I chose nude which flows with my outfit but they come in other colors and are currently on sale.

Well that’s just a start to more of my favorite fall looks. I’ll be back with more to share so be sure to check back next time. Take care everyone!

Afro-Rican Problems

Hey people. So I was really hoping that this post would show off my excellent flat iron skills, but I was wrong. It ended up being a realization that the fight with humidity is mad real. But although I had some issues, trust and believe I know what I’m doing.

So my big concern right now during my transition is heat damage. At the beginning of my journey I was using a titanium flat iron with very little heat protectant. For months now I’ve been laying low on straightening my hair and instead using low manipulation styles to try and help my curls bounce back. Since I wanted to wear it straight, I went back to my ceramic flat iron and found a protectant during a product hunt at Target.

There were several products to choose from but I ended up settling on the Jane Carter Solution Creamy Leave in Styling Smoother. This product was especially designed to protect natural and transitioning hair during heat styling which was perfect for me and I found it to be very moisturizing without weighing my hair down.

Since I was going to flat iron my hair I decided to begin the process by doing a hot oil treatment for added protection. After sitting under the dryer for a few minutes I followed up by washing my hair with Carol’s Daughter Monoi shampoo and conditioner.

After cleansing my hair I used a few pumps of the leave in moisturizer and coated my hair from root to tip. I then blow dried my hair in sections. Here’s a look at it after blow drying. It’s big, huh?

I added another two pumps to my dried hair for more protection before flat ironing. Next I began to flat iron by parting it in horizontal sections from the back of my hair and working forward. When I was done I wrapped my hair and went to sleep.

At the end of the day the humidity proved to be stronger and caused my hair to inflate a little. I mean it was ok but I know what my hair can do so I decided to do a small touch up. Since the moisturizer evaporated a little I added a small amount of protecting cream.

As you can see the end result was great. I was completely satisfied with the way it turned out. My hair lasted for about a week and kept it smooth by wrapping it each night.

Like I said before, my main concern at this point is protecting my hair when heat styling. During my next wash I checked to see if my curls bounced back and they did.

It looks as though I’ve found a product that works great for me. Although I found this great product, I’m going to continue to wear low manipulation styles until my hair is 100% natural.

Well that’s all for now guys. Make sure to follow the blog and don’t forget to follow me on Instagram and Twitter at @_curlyncurvy. See you next time!

Beachy!

Hey there good lookin!! I’m so sorry for my absence, but I’m back. I took some time to reevaluate this blog and after some encouragement I’m pushing forward. Since summer has begun, I’ve decided to return with a review of some swimwear.

The unofficial kick off to the summer season is the Memorial Day holiday weekend. To celebrate, I took a mini vacay in Myrtle Beach. It was bike week but to take a break from roars of the motorcycles, we spent some time on the beautiful beach and I made sure to find a bathing suit that was fabulous as the view.

Making sure I bought a suit that was fitting for me, I checked out Forever21. I found this Retro Halter in rose. The color went well with my skin tone which was great because finding complementing tones is important, especially swimwear.

This one piece was great. The halter was great because it of course allowed me to adjust my support. There was a lot of wiring but I think it was necessary to make sure everything stayed in place.

Hey look, I made sure my toes matched. Don’t they look beachy?

Well that’s all for now. Summer is a great time for style and it’s going to be a challenge for my STILL transitioning hair. There’s been some improvement by the way but that’s talk for another post. Bye-bye.
