Buyer Beware

Hey there guys!! So summer vacation is coming up and I’m sure a lot of you are planning some much needed getaways. If you’re like me, you’re probably browsing the internet on a daily basis trying to find the perfect bathing suit or a great maxi dress. I’m sure you’ll come across several deals that seem to good to be true. Well be careful because I once worked in a position that assisted customers with disappointing internet purchases, and some were absolutely horrible. So before you submit that order, I have a few tips to help avoid similar situations.
Have you ever been on FaceBook and came across an add for a clothing website with some really cute clothes? Yeah, I’ve seen them also. Very unique items that you can’t find at most stores in the mall and it’s all for a very low price. Well those are the ones I want you to be careful with. Not all of them are bad ones but, if you do some research, you might be able to save yourself some trouble.

 1. Follow the link to the website to find some very important information. You want to look for a customer service phone number. The trusted websites will have one available should you have any issues with your order. If they only have an email address, then they may be outside of the U.S. and it may be difficult to contact them if you have any troubles. Not that all international sites are trouble makers, but you want to be cautious.

 2. Since you found the company on FaceBook, check out the comment section of their ad. See if any customers have left a review of how their purchase went. Some may post pictures and some may voice current issues that they’re having.

 3. While you’re on the website try looking for a return address. Again, not that international sellers can’t be trusted, but having an international return address may cause longer shipping times and may make it difficult to return a not so satisfying purchase.

If you do your research and maybe you still feel uneasy about submitting an order, try being proactive. You could reach out to the company to ask any additional questions that you may have. You could also review the additional info on their site, such as their sizing chart, so that you know your purchase is going to fit correctly.

Should you choose to move forward with your purchase, I would suggest using a credit card or a PayPal account if you can. Usually your credit card company can protect your purchase should something go wrong, as well as PayPal. Also, if you find yourself in a situation where you need to make an exchange or a return, be careful of any company that offers an alternative to your request. They may suggest you keep the item and be refund a fraction of the cost that you paid. NO!! You better not accept some mess like that. If you want an exchange, make sure you get it, if not make sure you get your money back. If you received something that was different from what was on the website, then you don’t have to keep it especially if it looks like any one of these:

No bueno.

So, I know it’s a lot of information, but hopefully it’ll help when you’re online shopping. Internet shopping is fun and convenient, but you should be very cautious when buying from sites you’ve never done business with before. You’re not able to try anything on beforehand and customer service can be a little difficult if assistance is needed. So be careful out there. Deuces!!
